I was given this amazing prospectus of life after uni. I would be able to walk into any job, at least walking into a job would be a significant amount easier.
Yet here I am, 8 months later, jobless. I can honestly say that being encouraged to go to university, by my teachers was one of the worst things that has ever happened. We aren't encouraged anymore to go into a trade. All schools are interested in is getting their students into university. For what? Numbers, look how many students got into university last year! But I don't think it's doing any good. How many other people my age, who are graduates are in the horrible, depressing and soul crushing position, where everything seems totally impossible. It's a vicious circle, you're over qualified for shop jobs, yet you don't have enough experience for high level jobs, volunteer centres are awful, and it all results in another soul crushing trip to the job centre.
When you are fortunate enough to actually get an interview, in a mist of emails that "regret to inform you" or the emails that, must have gotten lost on the way to you... You have no confidence, no experience, and there's an awkwardness in answering the questions, that requires you to have had about 5 years experience.
Please tell me I'm not alone in this..
